Incredibly Lethal Made-in-Prison Weapons

Shotgun

Back in May 21, 1984 two inmates of a prison in Celle, Germany, took a jailer as hostage.  They shot a bullet-proof glass pane and escaped in a car. The key to their success was this shotgun, made entirely out of iron bedposts, and it’s charge was made of lead collected from curtain tape and match-heads that were supposed to be ignited by AA batteries and a broken light bulb.

Disguised Shiv

An ingenious and deadly weapon, this Shiv disguised as Jesus’s cross was found in an inmate’s cell in Wolfenbüttel, Germany in 1994. Who knows, it could have been used as an escape weapon.

Knuckle Duster

This dicey weapon was found in a cell in Wolfenbüttel Prison in Germany back in 1993. The padded handle might have been stolen from a prison workshop.

Double barrel Pistol

This handcrafted firearm was found in the cell of two Celle prison inmates on November 15, 1984. They have quite obviously been painstakingly crafted in the prison’s metal workshop. They could be loaded with match-heads and scrap metal and fired to do damage.

Mace

A cue from ancient China’s Ming dynasty, an anonymous inmate from Santa Fu prison in Hamburg, Germany designed this. It was found in 1997 in the metal workshop. It could have been used as a weapon or an escape tool.

Whip

A whip’s bad enough, but one fitted with razor blades is too grisly. This one was found around 1996 in Santa Fu jail in Hamburg, Germany. A drug addict inmate made it after failing to extort a higher Methadone ration by threatening a female prison officer with a knife.

Saw

Image designing a saw from a cutlery knife! Ingenious and evil, this 1937 German Navy knife from World War II  was smuggled inside. It was confisticated in 1994 from Wolfenbüttel prison in Germany.

Shank

This one confiscated from New Jersey prison, was made with a stainless steel spoon. The bowl of the spoon was filled with wax and wrapped with thread to make an improvised handle. The tip was then sharpened.

Small-bore Pistol

This one was confiscated around 1984 from a workshop in Wolfenbüttel prison, Germany. It was crafted from legal contraband and fitted with a wooden grip. The plan could have been shooting one of the officers and escaping.

Prison Knives

Knives are obviously illegal to carry in the prison complex. However, this collection of knives and shivs were secured at Santa Fu prison in Hamburg Fuhlsbüttel, Germany. Among many of these self-designed weapons was a shiv disguised as a ball pen.

Grappling Hook

This 4.5 metres long grappling hook had a rope made of leather and string. This was to help two inmates in their escape from Ludwigsburg prison, Germany on August 19, 1987. While this one was supposed to scale walls, the pointed extension rods make it a deadly hacking weapon if need be.

Catapult

Made in the metal workshop of Wolfenbüttel  Prison, Germany in 1991, this one could shoot secret messages, drugs, gun parts or bolts into a man’s skull. What more, the inmate claimed it was a piece of abstract art  called ‘Dackel’.
